Hi Guys

1 min read
It's pretty obvious I'm not doing much at all with my dA account.  Occasionally I'll browse through stock images or just look at art for inspiration.  Really, I've moved away from photomanipulation, which was what initially brought me to dA.  I'm not going to try to delete this account or my old deviations, but don't expect much new stuff.

If you want to see what I'm working on now that I'm an art student, I'm actively using tumblr and flickr.

My Portfolio

6 min read
Hi guys, I'd really like it if you'd all leave some feedback on this - my portfolio for admissions into the art department at Appalachian State University.  I've tried to select a range of artworks that I've done that are among by best.  Here are my top 10 pieces.

Dream Planet by RebeccaLongArt Drown out the Rain by RebeccaLongArt
Manipulations are probably the art form I am most experienced in.  I chose two manipulations that I liked personally and are also among the more popular in my gallery.  I think both of these show interesting composition and are technically well done.

Ocean Inspired Necklace by RebeccaLongArt
I've been making jewelry for years now, and though I don't want to take away space from other art works, I thought it was appropriate for there to be a little craftiness showing.  This piece is special because I actually made it for an interview at ASU.

Eyes by RebeccaLongArt Panic by RebeccaLongArt
Collage has been a recent interest for me, and I've made quite a few in just the past few months.  These two artworks were my selections.  "Panic" especially means a lot to me, as I based it around my emotions about my mental illness diagnoses.  Interestingly enough, both of these collages contain eyes.

David Tennant by RebeccaLongArt Macaw Drawing by RebeccaLongArt Iris Drawing by RebeccaLongArt
Evidence of drawing skills is one of the requirements for being accepted; unfortunately, I think I'm a bit lacking in this area.  I tried including drawings of different subject matter though, and used two different mediums.  I don't think these drawings are bad, they just aren't quite as good as I like.  But I do think it's nice that David Tennant is in my portfolio XD

Golly Portrait by RebeccaLongArt
I started working on this painting when I realised that I was  going to need to have some form of traditional artwork in my portfolio.  It's only my second attempt at oil painting, and it's a portrait of my horse.  I pretty much feel the same way about this as I do about my drawings.

Cubist Assemblage by RebeccaLongArt
I'm hoping that including something like this will help my portfolio stand out from the rest.  I think it's good that I have something different and creative to add.

If you are one of my more dedicated watchers, then you've noticed I've been pretty much inactive.  I've stopped participating in a lot of groups, but hopefully that will change.  I have some serious health issues that have been keeping me away, but i think I'll be back to creating new art very soon.  I have even started a couple WIPs.  You may see more photography and traditional art too, as I experiment with different mediums and try to get an art portfolio together.  I'm also almost done with the semester, which will give me about three weeks of free time.  So, watchers, how have you been in my absence?

How it goes..

2 min read
To make sure I focus at least a little bit on the positive, I acquired a new equine this week.  Her name is Baby and she's just a yearling.  She's been entrusted to me so I can keep an eye on her and give her some human interaction.  She's super cute and really sweet.

The past few weeks have been really horrendous for me.  I'm caught up in the mix of feelings I have when I move back and forth between mania and depression.  It leaves me feeling physically weak and emotionally drained.  I'm barely able to get through my day to day activities.  Honestly, I'm surprised I'm still mostly able to keep up with my heavy class load.  I haven't managed any art lately, though I do have some ideas, so hopefully I'll sit down with photoshop soon.  For financial reasons I was trying to avoid going back to talk to my mental counselor.  I finally broke in and had an appointment today.  It was the first time I've seen her since before the summer.  We had a nice chat and she encouraged my to get further psychiatric help.  *sigh* It's a hard fight.

Words of wisdom from today:
There's a difference between saying "I have depression" and "I'm struggling with depression."

I've been back to school.  I love learning so I enjoy my classes, though I've got a couple where the work's going to be challenging.

My tablet broke, so I haven't bothered trying to manip with my mouse.  I just got a new pen today which seems to fix the problem, so I'll be firing up photoshop soon.

I'm super inspired by my art appreciation class.  AND we start a hands on project Wedesnday.  Sweet!

My dA premium membership expired :(  I don't think I've got the money to renew it right now.   I enjoy being upgraded, but there are more important things for me to buy - like horse food.

Doctor Who premiere!   Yay for new episodes of Who.

Golly and I are starting to get back in the swing of things.  He's such a sweet horse, and is the best thing in the world for me right now.
